The Great White Hoax

To those of you who couldn't tell, the top 50 albums list I posted here earlier this week was a joke. Our annual albums list has seen a rift develop between those who occasionally listen to music recorded by black artists and those who listen to Genesis, so Mark and I decided to take it to another level and post lists on the same day including no more than four albums by white males. A real preview of my top 50 (with no fewer than 32 albums by white males) follows:

I kinda like my new list. It's got soul.

Siamese Dream are you kidding me?

Mark, even before I suggested the "cracker-capped list," I had a feeling you'd end up submitting that one. I'm not letting Siamese Dream go too easily. It's probably the one album most responsible for my obsession with music, and maybe the only album I had in high school that still gets a listen now and then (aside from The Bends, which I almost never listened to then). That said, I still haven't made room for "Illmatic," "Ready to Die," or "Enter the Wu-Tang," and I see at least one of them eclipsing Siamese Dream.

...well since Belle and Sebastian won't have ten albums out by December I'd say there's room.

I think The Low wants Skee-lo's 1995 debut 'I wish' instead of the pumpkins! Gordy would be upset too.

I wish I was like six-foot-nine
So I can get with Leoshi
Cause she don't know me but yo she's really fine
You know I see her all the time
Everywhere I go, and even in my dreams
I can scheme a way to make her mine
Cause I know she's livin phat
Her boyfriend's tall and he plays ball
So how am I gonna compete with that
'Cause when it comes to playing basketball
I'm always last to be picked
And in some cases never picked at all So I just lean up on the wall
Or sit up in the bleachers with the rest of the girls
Who came to watch their men ball
Dag y'all! I never understood, black
Why the jocks get the fly girls
And me I get the hood rats
I tell 'em scat, skittle, scabobble
